Before You Buy
Before making any purchasing decisions, I’ve got a few other areas that I recommend you check out first.
Budget
At this price point, I think we can pretty much exclude thinking about a budget, as these laptops are all expensive, and anything with an RTX 4090 inside is going to be pricey.
Specification
At this level of gaming laptop, i.e., based around an RTX 4090 graphics card, you’ll need the rest of the laptop specification to match to avoid performance bottlenecks.
When looking at laptops with an RTX 4090 graphics card, these are the specs I would expect to see:
- Processor (CPU) – at least an Intel Core i9 (like the Intel Core i9-13980HX) or AMD Ryzen 9 processor (like either the Ryzen 9 7945HX or Ryzen 9 5950X). Either of these will be excellent
- Memory (RAM) – 64 GB
- Storage – At least 2 TB of M.2 NVMe SSD storage and more if possible.
- Screen Size – At this price point, I would ideally want, at the minimum, a 17+” display, which will really make your gaming stand out – like PC gaming, a bigger screen is always better.
Options
I’ve listed below a few other recommended bits and bobs you might need if you don’t already have them.
Hardware
- Wireless Mouse – A good quality wireless mouse is essential for laptop gaming, and I recommend the Logitech G Pro X Superlight.
- Headphones – If you don’t have a set of headphones or need to upgrade – the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro is a nice bit of kit, a bit pricey, but really good.
You can also try the HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless Gaming Headset. My son had some of these and rated them highly. It’s quite affordable, too, compared to the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro, anyway.
- Laptop Cooling Pad – Despite the makers of the laptops reviewed extolling the virtues of their amazing, built-in cooling solutions, I would always choose to make use of a laptop cooling pad to help provide more cool air, especially during extended gaming sessions.
Conclusion
These are all excellent, beautifully built, and very well-equipped laptops that will provide the ultimate gaming experience that you can carry around with you or at least easily move to other locations.
Although I’m not in the market for one of these laptops, if I were, I’d probably go for Option 3, the Acer Predator Triton 17 X. It has all the specifications I would ever need for a great price.
Also, adding more RAM and storage is easy (particularly on this model) and not that expensive either.
